In the UK Film & TV industry, 'representation' means including and portraying a variety of characteristics, identities, social groups, and demographics. Underrepresentation occurs when specific groups or identities are noticeably absent in on-screen and off-screen roles. Data over the past decade shows that disabled individuals, people from Global Ethnic Majority backgrounds, and those from disadvantaged socio-economic groups are often under-represented, particularly in leadership roles.
